Gloria Jean Welsh Amey
Gloria Jean Welsh Amey age 81, a retired Registered Nurse was born in Harrod OH, the first of 3 daughters to John Albert Welsh and Louella Irene Leatherman. She has 2 sisters Janet Hubbell (Tom), Sandra Stobbe (Joe). She married her high school sweetheart Arthur L Amey Jr on August 5, 1951 and started their cross country/world venture with his career in the Army and they were married 59 years. Upon Art’s retirement from the Army they settled in San Marcos TX and have lived here for the last 37 years. She and Art had 2 sons Ryan (Joyce) and Bruce (Celia), 3 grandchildren Byron Amey (Tina), Kimberly Maxwell (Brandon) and Arthur B Amey and 2 great-grandchildren Adrian B Maxwell and Isa L Maxwell. Family meant a great deal to her. Her church family also meant a great deal to her. She was always very involved in her church especially with the UMW; Rachel Circle and her Bible study classes. She also over the years did a lot of volunteer work in the San Marcos community, a Board member of the Southside Community Center, she did volunteer work for the American Cancer Society, driving patients to Austin for treatment and she worked tirelessly with her beloved Twice Blessed Consignment Shop group among other things. She did these things for many years out of love and compassion that she had for others. Everyone who came in contact with Mom loved her. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all, she was truly an amazing and loving person. We will miss her more than we can put into words. We were all blessed for having her among us. And the best part now is that we have an angel in heaven putting in a good word for us.
Family will receive friends 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 28 at the Pennington Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be conducted at 9:45 am, Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, San Marcos, TX, with the Rev. Ryan Jenson officiating. Interment will follow at 1:45 pm at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.

Bruce, Celi, and Family:
Having met Mom when she would deliver Arthur to the office, I know the loving and caring person that she was. I know you all will miss her deeply. The hurt will pass and you will have many wonderful memories. The angel sitting on your shoulder will be her.
You are in my prayers.
Love,

I would like to express my sympathy to your family for your loss of Gloria.
The friendship that she and my husband Mark (deceased) had was many years ago in Harrod and he appreciated her notes when he was ill. Their families were close friends and Mark always spoke kindly of Gloria.
Mark and your brother Niles were also 1946 Ada High graduates.
My best to your family,
Ruth McPheron
