“Not Goodbye, just farewell our hero, until we see you again!” Glenn Reynolds peacefully closed his charming, soft spoken eyes for the last time here on earth May 7th, 2012. The heroic legend of the Reynolds family has turned the next page of his existence, one fulfilled life leading to another! The Father of three children, two sons and one daughter, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one amazing wife of 68 years. Thank you Dad for instilling the strong beliefs and strength in all of us that we have built our lives upon. We will miss you and love you for all the wonderful things that you taught us and did for us.

Glenn was born on Feb. 21st, 1921 and grew up on a farm in rural Alabama one of 11 children to a poor farmer. He went on to enlist in the Navy in 1939 and served aboard the Battleship Maryland and survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor, then on to North Africa and finally stationed in London where he would later go on to meet his beautiful wife Catherine McGale . Eventually, he would participate in the Korean War for two and a half years. After that, they would travel the world, and have three beautiful children….they ended up in El Paso, Texas. Later moved back to Glenn’s home state of Alabama . Then, in 2003 moved to Kyle, Texas to be close to their first born granddaughter, Ireland. His passions were reading, fishing, working on car engines, coin collecting , gardening and watching a great baseball game!

Many people have the fondest memories of Glenn as being a true southern gentleman. He told so many great stories about his war days, and the full life he and his wife had lived…He stands out in all our minds as a humble, kind hearted, strong willed veteran with a positive outlook on life…..he will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

There will be a memorial service at St. Anthony Marie de Claret Catholic Church in Kyle Texas on May 14th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for friends and family to send a tax deductible donation to www.diabetes.org or , www.alz.org in Glenn’s name.

Arrangements by Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcos, Texas, 512-353-4311.

Charles was born on September 25, 1943, in Castroville, Texas, and died at his home near Geronimo, Texas, on May 3, 2012. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lee Ann Foster, his brother, J. R. Foster, and by his parents, Iris and Lenora Foster. He is survived by his sons, Ferrell Cody Foster, and John Charles and wife, Sheila Joyce Foster. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Immediately following his graduation from San Marcos High School in 1962, Charles proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy for two years on active duty followed by two years in the Naval Reserve.

Upon his return from the Navy, Charles went to work for the United Gas Company in San Marcos and, soon thereafter, he married his high-school sweetheart, Karen Linebarger. During his career with the gas company, Charles and Karen raised their family and lived in several small towns including Smithville, Refugio, Schertz, New Braunfels and Hondo. Following their divorce after 10 years of marriage, Charles remained an active force in his sons’ lives. Although their marriage ended, Karen and the entire Linebarger family always loved and respected Charles for the truly unique person that he was.

Prior to his retirement in 2010 due to ill health, Charles spent the last 20 years of his working life as a loyal and dedicated employee of the Road Department of Guadalupe County.

Charles Foster was an honest man and lived a simple life – His Way. He drank and smoked, and enjoyed a good time. While he had regrets, as we all do, he never rationalized or justified his way of life. It was what it was. Nothing more, nothing less.

Charlie worked. Like his father before him, he was up at the break of day, and worked hard until Happy Hour began – promptly at 5:00. His work ethic was extraordinary and, except for the last few years when emphysema had finally ruined his health, men much younger than he could not keep up with him on the job. Folks would say, “Slow down, Charlie, it’s just a county job.” Not Charles, as that was not his way. If you worked for someone, you owed your boss your best effort all day, every day.

“If you’re waiting on me, you’re backing up” was Charlie’s favorite expression, and it described him perfectly.

Charles enjoyed penny-ante poker and playing moon with his buddies. Once, back in the 1960’s, when he worked for the gas company in Smithville, he played moon with Audie Murphy’s dad at the local domino parlor. Charlie won the game.

He was a hunter and a dead-eye shot with a rifle and shotgun. He won many turkey shoots at Dean’s Store. He loved to talk about his hunting trips to Colorado and west Texas, but it was being with his sons that made hunting very special for Charles.

A private family memorial with the Reverend Nell Linebarger officiating is planned. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held at Dean’s Store on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 3:00 pm with plenty of beer and barbecue. Charles would have approved.
