Mercy Cortez, 58, of Round Rock, Texas passed away on August 26, 2016. She was born on December 1, 1957 in Lockhart, Texas to Pedro and Dolores Cortez. She loved playing cards, watching movies; and also loved to be amongst her close friends. She is survived by four brothers, Pedro Cortez (Adelita ) of Kyle, Tony Cortez (Lydia) of Lockhart, Rick Cortez of Lockhart and Richard Cortez of Lockhart; one sister Connie Lara (Raul) of San Marcos; her favorite special aunt, Connie Alvarez, and belated uncle Arthur who would take her on special outings; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends at McCurdy Funeral Home, 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lockhart, with the Father Ed Karasek, Celebrant.  Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lockhart. Ronald Ray Munoz, Sr.

Ronald Ray Munoz Sr., age 57, joined the kingdom of heaven on Monday morning, August 22, 2016, after a long battle with diabetes and heart failure at his home in Lockhart, TX. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Florinda, his children, Ronald Ray Jr., Cynthia Nicole and son-in-law Kevin Venanzi; his mother,  Lucy Silva Malaer; and brothers, Richard Lee, Randal Boyd, and James Dale.  He joins his father, William Charles Muñoz, who preceded him in death. Ronald was born in Lockhart, TX on April 16, 1959 where he graduated from Lockhart High School in 1978. He went on to marry his wife on October 20, 1979 and enlisted in the National Guard. He served the guard for 15 years as a Unit Armorer and a crewman on a self-propelled gun. Before retiring, Ronald worked in transportation as a school bus driver and the Texas State Library and Archives. In his free time, he enjoyed building and painting 1/35 scale military models and watching movies with his family. Services for Edgar Earl “Shorty” Hanks, 82, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas are set for noon on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas.  Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday.  Burial will follow the service at Bunton Cemetery in Dale, Texas.  He died on Friday evening at the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas. Edgar Earl Hanks was born March 2, 1934 in Gonzales, Texas, the fourth child of James Virgil Hanks, Sr. and Minnie Hopkins Hanks.  He graduated from Gonzales High School in 1952 where he played football, basketball, and ran track.  He was voted most athletic male athlete his senior year. Shorty married Laura Ann Quicksall from Kirby, Texas in 1958.  Laura passed in 1991 and Shorty remarried in 1994 to Olene Lampton Hanks.  He worked for the H.B. Zachry Construction Company for 38 years as a superintendent and project manager building power plants in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico.  He retired in 1996. Emilia Marie Juarez, 19, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on August 11, 2016. Emilia was born on September 19, 1996 in San Marcos, Texas to Emilio M. Juarez III and Blanca Juarez. She is survived by her parents; two brothers, Emilio Pedro Juarez and Alexander Jesus Juarez; one sister, Alyssa Marie Valdez; grandparents, Connie and Tommy Jose Navarro Sr., and also Basilio Gutierrez and Julie Cruz. Emilia's smile will be forever missed. She was a very determined, beautiful, loving and special. Emilia will be missed but never forgotten. Lonnie Andrews, 76, of Austin, Texas passed away on August 8, 2016. He was born on March 26, 1940 in Houston, Texas to Lonnie Marshall and Dora Estelle Andrews. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years and he loved raising his cattle. Terrell Ellis Clark

Terrell Ellis Clark passed from his earthly life on August 4, 2016 at the age of 96.  He was born January 8, 1920 in McMahan, Texas. He was the son of Terrell R. and Corry Robertson Clark. He married Hazel Alene McWhorter in Lockhart Texas July 14, 1948. Terrell Ellis Clark served as an airplane mechanic and a sergeant in the Anny Air Corp in India during World War II. After the war, he returned to Lockhart and farmed and ranched for over 70 years. He was a good steward of the land was recognized as Caldwell County Agri-businessman of the year. Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers and sisters, William Tad Clark, Carl Robertson Clark, Robert Nye Clark, Bula Escue, Jewell Minnette Moore, Ella Marie Lawler, Ruth Ewald and Cora Clark. He lost his eldest son Terrell Edward Clark in 1972. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Alene Clark; son, William Robert Clark and wife Anne J. Lorilla Lois Woods (nee Kelley), loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2016. She was born on September 1, 1917. She was preceded by her husband, Vernon; her parents Guy and Fannie Kelley; her brother Garland Ross, and her sister Frances. She is survived by her brother Guy Kelley, Jr. and wife Lanelle and their children Ray and Bonnie; her daughter Joyce Moore and husband George; their daughter Cheri and husband Bill Graham and their daughter Alexandra; their daughter Shelly and husband Bill Sartin and son Camron; her son Gary and his son Mark and wife Stacey and children Elijah and Olivia, and his daughter Kristin. Ben Lempa, our Pops, 86, was born on March 1, 1930. He passed away peacefully on July 23, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Ben grew up on a farm where he learned his strong work ethic. He served 4 years in the United States Air Force at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. After the military, he worked for Caldwell County, J. D. Lay in the oil fields, and he loved working for Mr. Ernest Ewald. He then settled into a 30 year career with the US Postal Service. He met and married Lucille Joseph Lempa in 1964. They moved to Austin in 1970 to raise their family. After retirement, he went back to his roots raising cattle on his brother’s land in Lockhart. He loved old country music, western movies, and news/political talk shows. Because of his background with farming and ranching, he kept up to date with the weather. Alcario Q. Juarez, age 71, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 19th, 2016. He had his family by his side while he peacefully passed away joining his loved ones in Heaven. Alcario, also known as "Al'" was born on January 12, 1945 in Lockhart, Texas to Eduardo and Antonia Juarez. He was the youngest of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Meliton Juarez, Juan Juarez, Timoteo Juarez, Roman Juarez, Romalda Rodriguez and Cipriano Juarez. Al Juarez is survived by his beloved wife Mary Louise Juarez and daughters; Lisa Ancira (Tom), Flora Guerrero and Jessica Tamayo (Peter). Emma Lue Sultemeier Mohle, 89, of Lockhart passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, surrounded by her loving family. Emma Lue was born February 25, 1927, in the Blanco County community of Sandy, the 10th child of A.D. and Emma Sultemeier.  After graduating from high school early, Emma Lue taught in Blanco County while attending the University of Texas for her undergraduate degree.  Emma Lue then went on to complete her graduate degree in business from Texas Tech University. Upon graduation, Emma Lue returned to Blanco County to teach in Johnson City.  While teaching, she met and married Paul H. Mohle.  After time with the Soil Conservation Service in Childress Texas, the couple returned to Paul's hometown of Lockhart where Emma Lue continued to teach for the next 31 years.  After retiring, she and Paul enjoyed many years of traveling, time with family, dancing, dominoes, and active service with many church and civic groups. Kenneth Edgar Ewald

Kenneth Edgar Ewald left this earthly life for his eternal home in Heaven on July 17, 2016 at the age of 69.  He was born January 16, 1947 in Lockhart, TX where he lived most of his life until he moved to his beloved house in Martindale. Ken graduated from Lockhart High School in 1965, where he was known for his fast sports cars.  In 1972, he married Pamela Sue Cooper and they spent the next 44 years together, with hardly a day apart, until his passing.  He enjoyed traveling, eating in his favorite restaurants, being surrounded by his favorite pets, and being Poppy to his grandchildren. Ken is survived by his wife Pam, his daughter Courtney Cardosa and husband Daryl of Austin, his four grandchildren, Colton, Kensley, Cline, and Kate Cardosa all of Austin, and his sister Barbara Buckner and husband Danny.  He was preceded in death by his mother Viola Halliburton and step-father Larkin Halliburton. On July 5, 2016, surrounded by his wife Angela and his loving family, Juan J. Alvarez walked into the Light of God to everlasting life. Juan J. Alvarez was born on September 30, 1943 to Manuel and Evita J. Alvarez in Concordia, Coahuila, Mexico. On December 11, 1961, he married the love of his life, Angela DeLeon Alvarez and they shared 54 years and 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Juan retired in September 2009 from Centex Materials after 35 years of service where he worked as a Plant Foreman.  He was honored to serve as an Usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Martindale, Texas and attended Mass faithfully throughout his life. Melvin H. Bain, Jr., 92, of Luling, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Texan Nursing and Rehab of Gonzales, Texas.  He was born on October 24, 1923 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Melvin H. Bain, Sr. and Rubye Hoffman Bain. Melvin is survived by son, Don Melvin Bain, his wife, Susan, of Devon, Pennsylvania; son Ken Bain and wife, Stacie, of Santa Fe, Texas; brother David Harold Bain Sr. of Center, Texas; and sister Mary Wendland of New Braunfels, Texas.  Melvin has one granddaughter, Lauren Bain of Devon, Pennsylvania.  Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Lura Glynn Mercer Bain after 65 years of marriage.  Melvin is also survived by many close friends and extended family, too numerous to mention. Linda Mae Meador Lucksinger went to join her heavenly father on July 4, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.  To know Linda was to love her and she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.  Linda was born on July 24, 1942, to Alvin W. Meador and Julia (Judy) Allen Meador in Smithville, Texas.  They moved to Austin when Linda was three and she lived here most of her life. Linda was previously married to Billy Browning and was blessed with two sons; Tommy Browning (Lisa), Brett Browning, and one daughter, Anissa Browning Roddy (Keith).  Linda worked for the State for about 3 years but the rest of her career was with AISD in the Purchasing Department.  October 25, 1997, Linda married Paul Lucksinger and loved to say she saved the best for last.  They were happily married 18 years 8 months.   Paul has two grown daughters from his first marriage, Cindy Crouch (Harlan) and Sandra Faske (Marcus).  Linda and Paul lived in Lytton Springs, Texas, and Linda found she loved living on a ranch with Paul.  She also learned to love Paul’s girls and ...
