Verna B. Riddle

Verna B. Riddle was born on September 18, 1921 to John H. and Alphia Duke Hamblin in Lockhart, Texas. Verna graduated from Lockhart High School and worked for several local businesses as a bookkeeper and sales clerk. Her warm smile and winning personality won her many friends wherever she went. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister along with husbands M.B. Jeffrey and James V. Riddle. She leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces along with great- nephews and nieces. To those of us that knew and loved her, she was indeed the very best of the greatest generation. Georgia George,84, of Lockhart, was called to be with the Lord on April 17, 2017. She was born on April 9, 1933 to George and Arlene Corn in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Georgia will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, and treasured grandmother; who had a heart for God. She was a member and a Sunday school teacher at Delhi Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing and volunteering at area nursing homes. She also loved visiting with family and friends; traveling with her husband to sing country and gospel music at local shows. She was well known for crocheting; her last project was making lap blankets for the Senior Activity Center. Additionally, she was a secretary for McCurdy Funeral Home, owned George’s Christian Bookstore and was also an employee at Remembrance Plus. She was preceded in death by her parents; two granddaughters, Shannon George and Charlotte Ewald. Spurgeon Bruce Strandtmann

Spurgeon Bruce Strandtmann, 77, of Maxwell passed away on April 13, 2017, with his brother at his side.  To many he was known by Bruce. He was born in Commerce, Texas, to Mary Ruth (nee Chance) and Russell William Strandtmann. Bruce was an accomplished sign language interpreter and mastered riding his unicycle. Though Bruce never married nor had any children he touched many people’s lives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew. He is survived by his brother Russell Lamar Strandtmann of Juneau, Alaska, and 2 nieces; Wendy Bat Sarah of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Amy Bibb of Juneau, Alaska. There will be a memorial service in June. The date will be announced later. His ashes will be buried next to his parents in the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Paula Sue (Barnes) Ayres, 66, of Fort Madison, Iowa, (formerly of Lockhart) passed away March 31, 2017 in Homosassa, Fla. Paula Sue was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, to Paul and Beverly Barnes on Dec. 1, 1950. She was a wife to her best friend, Gene Ayres; a loving mother to her three children, her husband’s five children, 13 grand-children and a bunch of great grand-children. She was always quick to get the newest baby of the family in her arms. Paula was a giving and vibrant woman, an entrepreneur beside her husband through the years, a homemaker that enjoyed sewing, crafting, decorating and planning gatherings for all occasions, a playful and adventurous companion, and an avid reader. Paula is preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Barnes, and her youngest son, Joseph Hartley. Emilienne (Emilie as she liked to be called), age 81 passed away peacefully at home in Lockhart, TX on April 2, 2017 while she was sleeping. Emilienne was born on April 12, 1935 she was predeased by her parents Gerard L. Paradis and Marie (Shagnon) Paradis. Emilie is survived by her sister Rose Moore, brothers Denis M. Paradis and Gerard H. Paradis; Four (4) children Nava Jean Mazzaglia, Steven St. Hilaire, Monique Fantauzzi and Jeffrey St. Hilaire; Eleven (11) grandchildren - Bryce, Jay, Kira, Stevie, Seth, Joshua, Matthew, Daniel, Aliya, Kianna and Mia; Four (4) great grandchildren - Kailyn, Donovan, Hope and Alex. Fred T. Hankey III, better known as Tommy, was born on June 14, 1954 to Fred T. Hankey, Jr. and Neta Joy Wilson Hankey in Austin, TX. Tommy loved ironworking. He was a 40-year member and veteran of Iron Workers 482, Austin, TX. He worked on the Frost Bank building, the Drum and on many buildings in between. Tommy was also a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Sons of the American Revolution, San Jacinto Descendants and Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Lockhart, TX. He had many loves in his life but never married. He and his truck were inseparable as he loved to drive around Caldwell County, especially to the park where he listened to the radio. Tommy was a real cowboy and loved working on the family ranch with his livestock. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help. Larry Walton passed from this earth into Heaven at St. David’s Hospital on March 21, 2017. Larry was born in Bay City, Texas on March 8, 1943. He was preceded in death by his parents Elroy and Esther Walton. Larry was married to Joyce Wofford on Nov. 28, 1963. They were married for 53 years. From this union came three children: Jacqueline Marie Walton Jenkins, Dwayne Allen Walton and wife Sheleo, Robert Michael Walton and wife Bridgette. Also, grandchildren: William, Jennifer, Shania, Siera, Walton, Julia, Joey Jenkins and wife Laura, James and Justin Walton, Trey Welch and a great granddaughter Sophia Marie Johnson. He is also survived by his brother Harry Lee Walton. Pallbearers will be William Walton, Joey Jenkins, James Walton, Justin Walton, Trey Welch and Steven Walton. Helen Harris, 92, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on March 16, 2017. She was born October 3, 1924, in Cotulla, Texas, to Bill and Olga Hillje Fahrig. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester O. Harris of 70 years. She is survived by her son, Danny E. Harris, wife, Marty, and daughter, Diane Rodgers, husband, Vance; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren; a brother, Bryan Fahrig, wife, Doretta. Helen was a faithful member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lockhart. She was a life time resident of Lockhart and graduated from Lockhart High School in 1942. During WW Il, she worked at Randolph Air Force Base as many young girls did from this area. On New Year's Eve 1943, she married Chester Harris from Dale. They traveled to Perry, Florida where he was stationed and lived there until the war ended and then returned to Lockhart to make their home. Aguilar; one son, Antonio C. Hernandez, Jr. and wife, Beatrice Caudillo; five treasured grandchildren, Jessica Aguilar, Alfred J. Aguilar II, Michael A. Pat Parrish, 80, of Lytton Springs died Sunday, March 12, 2017.  She was born May 8th, 1936 in Lytton Springs, Texas to Dill and Beatrice Strawn.  Pat was the youngest of eight children.  She graduated from Lockhart High School where she lettered in volleyball.  After high school she attended Brackenridge Nursing School in Austin and became an LVN.  She worked at the Lockhart Hospital before deciding to stay  at home to raise her children.  She later worked part time for many years at the Lockhart Livestock Auction where she made lifelong  friendships with the  other “auction ladies”.   Pat retired from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2007 after 13 years of service. She married Lynn Parrish on May 6th, 1956. He preceded her in death on April 4th, 2014 after 57 years of marriage. Pat is survived by three children, Patti and husband Art Hammonds, Karen and husband Pete Fincher, Mark  Parrish and wife Melody.  She has six grandchildren, Kalee Hammonds Clark, Blake Hammonds, Garrett Fincher,  Cole Fincher,  Kassie Parrish and Kyle Parrish.  Three great grandchildren, Kaycee Jo Clark, Tristan Clark, and Sydney Fincher. Richard Michael Huggins, 60, of Lockhart, Texas passed away unexpectedly on the morning of March 11, 2017. He was born on June 16, 1956, in Bertram, Texas to Marie Odis and J.W. Huggins. Richard was very knowledgeable when it came to fixing tractors, servicing and hauling heavy machinery; working most of his life in construction and driving haul-trucks. He started this line of work after completing John Deere School in Dallas. He loved his family to the fullest; always talking about his dreams for them. Richard had dreams for his children to learn as much as they could to succeed in life. He loved to Deer hunt, something he would do as a child with his parents and also had done at one time or another with each of his children and wife. After 36 years of marriage, Ken Hoffman, 82, and Peggy (Wilson) Hoffman, 73, passed away together unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 7, 2017.  The Hoffman’s were beloved parents, grandparents, friends, lifelong educators, and pillars in the Lockhart community. They were survived by their 5 children, Melissa Messerly of Lockhart; Kim Chapman, husband Chris, of Lockhart; Dee Voigt, wife Mandy, of Lockhart; Billy Hoffman of Weimar; Vicki Brorman, husband David, of Vega; and 9 grandchildren, Kayla and Tara Chapman; Kelly and William “Aubrey” Voigt; Savannah Goodman and Dylan Messerly; and Paige, Dane and Slade Brorman. Ken was also survived by his sister, Barbara Chapman; Peggy was also survived by her sister, Patty Williams, husband Ralph; and cousin, Kay Hiscoe. Rose Marie Munoz,55, of Lockhart, born February 28,1962 was called to be with the Lord on her 55th birthday, Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Rose is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Alfredo Munoz Sr., a retiree of the Texas Army National Guard (1977-1997) and a current twenty-year employee of Auto Zone-Lockhart. Her son, Alfredo Munoz Jr., is a Hays County Sheriff’s Office Deputy married to Glenda and they reside in Kyle with their two children Nicholas and Elena. She was preceded in death by her parents the late Semion (Eladio) and Louisa (Mary) Camareno Juarez.
