Shirley Carlene Voigt, 82, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on February 24, 2017. She was born on September 17, 1934 in Lockhart, Texas to Carl Edward and Pally Lorraine Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, William Thomas Voigt, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Thomas Voigt, Sr.; one son, Russell Voigt and wife, Sheila of Houston; two daughters, Lynette Richter and husband, Nick of Luling and Sandra Voigt of Lockhart; one brother, Steven Williams of Austin; one sister, Joye Estelle Williams of Lockhart; nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. David “Nuno” Silva, Jr., 49, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on February 23, 2017. He was born on February 18, 1968 in Lockhart, Texas to David and Andrea Silva. Nuno was a fun, loving outgoing person that was friendly to everyone that he came in contact with. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Andrea Silva; three brothers, Richard Silva, Jimmy Silva and wife, Linda, and Jerry Silva; and his nephew, Jimi Issac Silva. Joe Jackson, 86, has gone home as of February, 21, 2017. He passed away at 1:18 am. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Jackson; daughters, Janice Vaugh of San Antonio, JoAnn Jackson-Beamon of Tennessee, Pearl Jackson-Johnson of Austin; son, Phillip Jackson of Lockhart and by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Guy Kelley, Jr.

Guy Kelley, Jr.

Guy Kelley, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 27, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born on Christmas Day 1924 to Guy Kelley and Fannie Garner Kelley in McMahan, Tx.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Lorilla Woods and Frances Kelley (infant) and brother Garland Ross Kelley. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lanelle Huddleston Kelley, son Ray Kelley and daughter Bonnie Kelley. Guy was a man of service. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army.  On May 6, 1945, he suffered shrapnel wounds from enemy mortar fire on the island of Okinawa. He was a very proud WW II veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Guy also served his community. He was a former director of the McMahan Water Supply Corporation (founding member), the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Farm Service Agency and the Luling Watermelon Thump. Guy served God by the example he set for his family and those whose lives he touched. He also served on various committees at McMahan Baptist Church where he was a member for many years. Pallbearers include Tod Freeman, Steven Golla, James Guckian, Wayne Huddleston, George Moore, Jim Thomas, Joe Trejo, and Gary Woods. ...

Donald Ray Swanson, Jr. of Harwood, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2017at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Don was born on March 4, 1964 to Jenney Lou (McCray) and Donald Ray Swanson, Sr., Don was the oldest of three sons. Don and Kay Michele (Moore) Swanson were married on March 14, 1992 in Austin, Texas. Don was a former member of IBEW 520 and was employed with Schmidt Electric the last 15 yrs. Don is survived by his loving wife, Kay Michele Swanson, two beautiful daughters, Sara Beth Swanson and Amy Lynn Swanson, both of Harwood, his father, Donald Ray Swanson, Sr. of Lampasas, his brother, Terry Edward Swanson of Lampasas. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Jenney Lou (McCray) Swanson, his brother, David Lee Swanson. Lauren Marie Garcia, 18, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on January 11, 2017, with Isaac James Garcia by her side. She was born on July 12, 1998 in San Marcos, Texas to George Louis Garcia and Romelia Reyna Nava. Lauren was a senior at the Lockhart High School who was on track to graduate this year. She was a spunky, bubbly spirit, who always had a smile on her face. Delon “Dee” Wright

Delon “Dee” Wright passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 11, 2017 at the age of 90. He was born in Donna, Texas to William and Edna Wright. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served as an Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd class.  He was a Turret gunner on a PV2 Harpoon Submarine Patrol plane. He was honorably discharged for his services at the end of WWII. He was an old school cowboy and Farrier who loved working with his horses and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Connie Wright. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Wright of 51 long beautiful years; five sons, Delon and wife, Pattie, Wayne, Gene, Terry and wife, Margaret and Jeff; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 3:00pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Wounded Warrior Project. Isaac James Garcia was born in Seguin, Texas on April 6, 1995 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 11, 2017 at the age of 21. Isaac is survived by his father, Albert Garcia, Sr; his mother, Celia M. Garcia; two brothers, Albert Garcia, Jr. and Jimmy J. Garcia; three sisters, Miranda D. Garcia, Amanda E. Garcia and Daisey M. Garcia; one niece, Aaliyah M. Ramos and four nephews, Isaiah D. Castillo, Kayleb A. Garcia, Zayden L. Estrada and Adrian X. Ramos. David Albert Ohlendorf

David Albert Ohlendorf, treasured husband, father and “Popo” passed away on January 8th, 2017, surrounded by family at his home right outside Lockhart, Texas.  David was 74 years old, born in 1942 on his family’s farm at Rogers Ranch near Mendoza. David graduated in 1960 from Lockhart High School and briefly continued his studies at Texas A&M.  After spending one year in Aggieland, he returned to the work world and then finally settled on Southwest Texas State University, where he earned a degree in Agriculture.  He met Carol Benkendorfer, the woman who would later become his wife, in the college library.  To this day it remains a mystery as to why he would have actually entered the library, but nonetheless, David and Carol were married for over 50 happy years.  David was deeply connected to the Lockhart area and they made their home here.  He had many work opportunities including Central Soya, Conso Products, Kewaunee Scientific and finally the Golden Age Home.  David and Carol started their family in 1973 and briefly moved to El Paso where David helped to start a Conso plant in Juarez, Mexico.   David had many opportunities ...

Carlos Castaneda, a resident of Lockhart, passed away on January 5, 2017 at the age of 37 in Iowa. He was born on July 10, 1979 to Ruperto and Carmen Castaneda in Lockhart. Carlos was a passionate Dallas Cowboy fan. He was preceded in death by his father (1996) and older brother Frank Bravo (2010). Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Carmen Castaneda; son, Gabriel Floyd; 2 brothers, Ernest and Robert Castaneda; grandmother, Lupita Castaneda; aunt, Luz Ceja; sister in law, Maria Bravo; and his niece and nephew Lupita and Frank Bravo. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home from 10 am until 9 pm with recitation of the Rosary at 7pm. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 11th beginning at 2 pm also at McCurdy Funeral Home. Carlos will be laid to rest next to his brother in the Lockhart City Cemetery.

Grace Katherine Sassman Jeffrey age 63 went to be with the Lord Jesus on January 3, 2017, in Manor Hillcrest Nursing Home, Luling, Texas. She was born at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas on July 17, 1953 to Annie and Thomas Victor Sassman. She graduated from Del Valle High School in 1971 and lived in McMahan, Texas. Other places she lived were in Austin, Lockhart, Luling and Houston. She was a great woman and a loving wife, sister and aunt. She married Roy Jeffrey on December 3, 1971 Grace enjoyed playing cards and dominos. She loved doing cross stitch and petty punch until her hands began failing her. She loved her animals especially her cat and dog. Her family and friends will remember her as a loving good hearted animal lover. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, brother, stepfather, father-in-law and mother-in-law. Violet P. Vann

Violet P. Vann went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2017. She was born in Minot, North Dakota on November 3, 1922 and became a transplanted Texan in 1945 when she married Daniel Vann. After 68 years of marriage he passed away and she missed him terribly. They are again reunited in the presence of the Lord who they both loved with their whole heart. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis and grandson, Tony. She has one remaining child, Christine (Christy) Crow; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. William ‘Wes’ Davis

William “Wes” Davis passed away, one day shy of his 84th birthday, on December 21, 2016. He was born in Shelbyville, Illinois to Menzo and Caroline Davis on December 22, 1932. Wes served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS DeHaven and the USS Hopewell. He married Juanita Elrod Davis on August 11, 1959. After marriage they moved to Texas and eventually settled in Austin where Wes established a cabinet making and remodeling business.  Once he retired, Wes and Juanita moved for the last time in the 1980’s to Lockhart so they could enjoy the slower pace of the country life. Wes was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Juanita Davis (2002); 2 sisters, Marie Rincker and Vera Barton; and a brother Wayne Davis. He is survived by 2 daughters, Donna Gerald (Ralph) and Carol Stewart (Greg); and a son Michael Davis; 3 grandchildren: Aron Griebel (Jamee), Shane Stewart and Allison Stewart; 2 great grandchildren: Mackinzee Griebel and Cy Griebel; and his sweet furry companion, Annie his cat.
