Esther J. Branch, 79 of Lockhart, Texas passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014. She was born on January 8, 1935 to Nathan and Annie Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Branch; her parents; her son, Jackie Davis; and eleven siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Evans (Marvin) of Lockhart; her sister, Cordalia Miller of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at McCurdy Funeral Home on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in Lockhart. James Michael Stone

James Michael Stone, 69, of Lockhart, went to his eternal rest on Oct. 8, 2014. He was born in Austin, Texas, on Dec. 8, 1944, to James Lamar and Janie Elizabeth (nee Long) Stone. Mike attended Lockhart schools for most of his life, moving to Buda and graduating from Buda High School in 1963. He attended Southwest Texas State University, graduating with a degree in Economics in 1968. It was at SWTSU that he met Gwendylon Doss, who he married on July 28, 1967. For more than 30 years, Mike was a transport driver for Exxon Mobil. After his retirement from Exxon Mobil, he worked for the Chuck Nash automotive group in San Marcos. Known as a quiet man of deep thoughts, Mike spent most of his time driving his truck throughout Central Texas. He used that love of driving in his career, having been recognized by Exxon Mobil for driving more than 2 million miles without lost time or a preventable accident. Thomas Finfrock

Tommy Finfrock peacefully passed away at home on Oct.3, 2014 in the presence of his family. He was born in Houston on Jan. 30, 1934, to Jean Paul Finfrock and the former Blanche Josephine Kennedy.  Upon graduation from high school he was awarded a full scholarship to Texas A&M to study agriculture, where he formed many lifelong friendships while earning a degree in Dairy Husbandry as a member of the Class of ‘56. On trips to Lockhart, his aunt, Mildred Mohle arranged for him to drive her to the farm of H.F. “Hank” Fortman to get some vegetables, where she made sure that he met a pretty young girl named Wilma Fortman. They were married just over a year later on June 9, 1956, and they remained side by side until his death. After spending two years in the Army, they returned to Lockhart and operated a retail nursery until 1971 and then a wholesale nursery until 2005.  Tommy served as a lay minister and Sunday School teacher over the years at the First Lockhart Baptist Church, Clearfork Baptist Church, Dale Baptist Church, and Fentress Baptist Church. Dr. J. Tom Connolly

It is with heavy heart that we say goodbye to Dr. J. Tom Connolly. Tom passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday evening, Sept. 28, 2014. Born March 13, 1933 to James Edward and Jessie Mary McMillan Connolly, Tom grew up and spent much of his adult life in Lockhart. Upon graduation from Lockhart High School, he attended Texas A&M University (Class or '55) and completed his formal education at Baylor University College of Medicine. Dr. Tom, as he became known to so many, was a shining example of a servant's heart. Choosing a professional life of service as a physician, he began by serving his country as a Lieutenant Commander Intern in the United States Navy. He returned to Lockhart to build his private practice of 35 years. Although he closed his practice in Lockhart, he continued his professional service in a variety of medical roles. Tom served his community throughout the course of his life in numerous capacities, including tenured position on the Board of Directors of Lockhart National Bank, Member of Lockhart ISD School Board, medical physician for Lockhart High School football program, various committees at First United Methodist Church of Lockhart, and coaching his children's sports teams. She lived most of her life in Lockhart with her husband, Fidel Rodriguez. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, 4 children - Edward, Mary, Christine, and Andrew; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Leona Charlotte Kenney went to be with the Lord on August 28, 2014.  She was born in Fashing, Texas on July 13, 1930. Leona is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Kenney, her parents, Hubert and Elizabeth Henke, brother, Hubert F. Henke, sister, Margaret Jarzombek, son-in-law, Robert Dembowski, and grandson, Brandon Kenney. Leona is survived by her daughter Denise Dembowski, son Ernest Kenney and wife Kathy, son Patrick Kenney and wife Frieda Jones, daughter Patricia Kenney and husband Frank Tello, daughter Amy Kenney and partner Oscar Rojas, son Wayne Kenney and wife Mary, sister, Irene Bodden, brother Alvin Henke and wife Mary Ann. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Shane, Jamie, Ben, Andrew, Lauren, Ashlee, Cameron, Dylan and Thomas, five great-grandchildren and other loving family members. Her love of God, family and her Catholic faith were at the forefront of her life.  Her career was bookkeeping but her main purpose in life was raising her children.  Hobbies included cooking, baking, dancing, playing dominoes and caring for her parakeets.  After retiring, Leona spent her time volunteering at the Lockhart Senior Activity Center. Betty Jean Bowers left this life on August 25th, 2014 after an absolutely wonderful 83 years. Morsey (her family - grandmother name) was a woman with an endless grace, kindness and love that she shared with all that she knew. We have all been blessed with her presence and spirit. Memories will bring smiles, stories and laughter! Betty set a high bar for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to aspire. Morsey, each one of us is eternally grateful for your unconditional love and gentle prodding; you have taught us well and are our family’s beacon. We will try to carry forward your positive light! Edwin T. Hitchcock, 70, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on August 25, 2014. He was born on December 27, 1943 in Shelbyville, Illinois to Edwin Terry and Laverna Glee Hitchcock. Ed served his country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the USAF, he went to work for the LCRA in 1970 and retired in 1997. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verna Glee and Edwin Terry Hitchcock; aunt and uncle, Iva and Emmett Blackburn; father and mother-in-law, A.B. and Mary Schaefer; sister-in-law, Agnes Schaefer Merka; and brother-in-law, Clyde Cannop. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Schaefer Hitchcock; his sons and daughter-in-laws, Edwin Terry Hitchcock V, John Thomas and Catie Hitchcock, Richard Wayne and Linnet Hitchcock, and Robert William and Ashley Hitchcock; along with numerous other “adopted” sons and daughters.   Dollie Ann Cole, age 84, passed away on August 24, 2014. Mrs. Cole, widow of the late  Edward N. Cole, former President of General Motors Corporation, was a respected businesswoman, serving in leadership roles on numerous national and local boards including on the board of  PBS, Project HOPE (World Health Organization), The Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, the National Corvette Museum, HPSC, a national leasing and finance company based in Boston, National Captioning Institute for the Hearing Impaired, National Academy of Sciences Presidents' Circle, and the 100 Club of Central Texas, a charitable organization established to support the families of officers killed while serving the public. Mrs. Cole was also a member of the Corvair Society and was a Distinguished Woman of Northwood University. Mrs. Cole's interests included historic preservation, attending auctions and she was a great supporter of projects in and for Texas, including the Settlement Home for Children. Mrs. Cole also worked as a Senior Editor for Curtis Publishing. Donald Eugene Tokar

  Donald Eugene Tokar died peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2014 at Warm Springs in New Braunfels, Texas. Donald was born on July 29, 1932 to Joseph c. Tokar and Stella H. Wojack in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the second of their four sons together. He was able to receive track scholarships and worked hard to obtain a Business Degree from the University of Minnesota. During this time he married Mary Alice Loesch of Minneapolis. After graduation he entered the Air Force. He was trained as a pilot; one of the true loves of his life. He served his country proudly for 2S years, retiring when he was no longer able to fly. He took up residence in Austin, Texas to be close to his daughter. He was a tax consultant until his death. He is preceded in death by his father Joseph, mother Stella, brother Jerry, and his three wives Mary A. Tokar, Helen Tokar, and Gloria McCue. Survivors include his brothers Robert D. Dorothy Joyce Vestal was born the “cotton-topped daughter” of Alice Louella (Norman) Vestal and William Reagan Vestal on Nov. 14, 1929, in the Hays Community in Cooke County, Texas. She entered into her Father’s Kingdom on Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Lockhart, Texas. A lifelong teacher and artist, Dorothy married James Billy Taylor on Aug. 23, 1952. The couple lived in Huntsville while James earned both undergraduate and master’s degrees in Agriculture. It was there that their first son, David, was born. Later, the family moved to the Rio Grande Valley, where Dorothy attended Pan Am University, taught third grade for several years. During this time, Roger Mark, Bradly and Alice Taylor were born. As her four children grew, Dorothy traveled with them in the summers; taking them to Gainesville with her while she pursued her master’s degree from the University of North Texas. In 1972, the family moved to Lockhart, where Dorothy continued to teach, becoming a beloved elementary school teacher until her retirement in 1995. Celsa was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was devoted to her family and loved to cook for them. She is survived by her husband, Jesus Celestino Gonzales; one daughter, Connie Amaya; three sons, Julian Cano, Jr., Joe R.
