Paul Carl Gassenmayer of Elgin, passed away on June 24, 2017. Paul was born on December 8, 1933 in Rochester, NY.  He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Gertrude Gassenmayer and former wife Rebecca Livengood Gassenmayer.  He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Gassenmayer, step siblings, Nancy Breeding and Robert Keller of Pennsylvania, daughter Lori Gassenmayer-Brunson and husband Paul of Austin, step-daughter Donna McClary of Lockhart, step-sons Kevin McClary and wife Susan of Del Valle, Gary Griffin and wife Vicki of Alvin, Craig Griffin and wife Laurel of Round Rock, Jerry Griffin and wife Jenny of Katy.  He was "Opa" to 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. After graduating from the Irondequoit High School in Rochester, New York, Paul served in the Navy from 1953 through 1957.  He then went on to graduate from the University of Rochester.  After graduating college, he again proudly served our country in the Air Force retiring after a distinguished career as a Captain in 1977. William (Bill) Thomas Voigt, Sr., 84, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on June 20, 2017 peacefully after a battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with his children at his bedside. He was born on January 29, 1933 in Jourdantan, Texas to Sam and Ella Nite Voigt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Shirley Carlene Voigt; his son, William Thomas Voigt, Jr.; two sisters, Gladys Boling and Luella Duran; and four brothers, Walter Voigt, Charlie Voigt, Orbin Voigt and Clifton Voigt. He is survived by one son, Russell Voigt and wife, Sheila of Houston; two daughters, Lynette Richter and husband, Nick of Luling and Sandra Voigt of Lockhart; one sister, Helen Franks of Tillman; nineteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren with two additional great-grandchildren on the way. Betty Jean Franks

Betty Jean (Lewis) Franks, a great spirit who loved her family, friends and life in general, died of heart failure at the age of 90 on May 26, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.      She died peacefully with family members at her bedside who made sure she knew that she had been much loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her.      Born to Dock Lindsey and Mary Elizabeth Mosley Lewis on June 18, 1926 in Graham, Oklahoma, she was the last of five siblings still alive. Sisters Emma Marteil Bramlet, Media Pearl Stueve and Mary Rountree and brother Russell Lewis all preceded her in death.      The central fact of her life was that for 71 years she was married to her beloved Curtis Charles Franks, who survives her at the age of 91.     They met in Lockhart after her family moved to Texas from Oklahoma, then they married in 1946, shortly after Curtis returned from the Pacific at the end of World War II.      They did their part for the post-war baby boom by ...

Debra Denise Pacheco, 42, of Lockhart, Texas passed away on June 3, 2017. She was born on December 2, 1974 in San Marcos, Texas to Joe Raymond Pacheco and Sylvia Cuellar. Debbie was so full of joy. Her smile was contagious. She loved her family and their pets, music, dancing and watching the Cowboys and the Spurs play, getting her nails done and hugging on her stuffed animals and dolls. Debbie was a popular patient anywhere she went. Her childlike ways and huge smile made her a staff favorite. She was special to all of us and will be sorely missed. Zelma Idella (Kelley) Brawley passed away on June 1, 2017 in Lockhart, Texas. She was born on November 9, 1929 in Caldwell County, Texas to Margie (Sneed) Sorrels and Hilbert Kelley. She was united in holy matrimony to Johnnie Lee Brawley, Sr., and to this union seven children were born. Her husband, parents, and one child, Sandra Joyce (Brawley) Ellison, have preceded her in death. Sweet memories of Zelma will live on in the lives of her surviving children, family, and friends. Edgar Clarence Black, Jr., 91, of Lockhart passed away June 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Edgar was born on Nov. 3, 1925 in Delhi, Texas to Edgar Black, Sr. and Myrtle Baldwin Black. The family moved to Lockhart in 1932 to open a grocery store and meat market that came to be known as Black's Barbecue. After graduating from Lockhart High School in 1943, Edgar attended Texas A&M in College Station. He soon volunteered for the Navy and served four years in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he returned to Lockhart to marry the love of his life, Norma Jean Nolte on June 20, 1948. The couple moved to College Station to complete his college degree in accounting. After graduation Edgar turned down a job with Exxon in Houston to return and manage the family businesses in Lockhart. For 60 years Edgar and Norma Jean successfully grew the family businesses, Black's Barbecue, Northside Grocery and Market and the Lockhart Sausage Company. Jim was born in Luling, Texas to Francis E. Fogle and Lorena Burris Fogle. As a young child, he attended school in Luling then later was enrolled in a Catholic school in Beeville.  He lived in Corpus Christi, San Francisco, Sonoma California and Virginia Beach area in Virginia.  Jim quit school in the 9th grade and went to work to help support the family.  He worked at a Drive-In Movie running the projector and delivered newspapers.  He returned home to Luling, TX upon the 50th wedding anniversary of his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Burris, where he remained, later becoming employed in the oil fields in Luling. Around 1954, He developed an interest in Music.  Jim used the E string from his dad's guitar and a #3 wash tub and started making music.  His Dad helped him buy a bass guitar at the music store in Seguin. 10 days later he got his first gig with Sleepy Short and Cecile Moor at Paws Inn, he made a whopping $3.75. Charlie Phillip Goertz

Charlie Phillip Goertz was born in Austin, TX on March 29, 1952. He was the eldest and only son of Paul and Elizabeth Allen Goertz. He graduated from McCallum High School in Austin. While he was there he was in the ROTC and after graduation enlisted in the US Navy. During the Viet Nam War he was stationed in Guam working on nuclear vessels. After his discharge from the US Navy, he worked for the TX Highway Department for a while and then went to work for a residential treatment center, where he met and married Lynne Lewis. Eventually he realized he preferred working for himself outside and chose to do landscaping and yard maintenance for the rest of his working career. Charlie loved music, children and picking up stray animals. He was lovable, curiously funny and people were drawn to his oddly appealing humor. People enjoyed spending time with him, but he preferred to spend time with people individually or in small group. He was not a fan of large or dressy affairs. Donald Denis De Cecca of Lockhart, Texas was born November 25, 1925 in White Plains, New York departed this life May 6, 2017. Donald graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. Upon graduation in 1951 he flew to Dallas, Texas where he obtained employment as a Fire Insurance Underwriter the second day of his arrival.  He had never been to Texas. He remained in Dallas until he moved to Lockhart with his surviving wife, Alfreda Pavlica De Cecca in 1999. He is survived by one sister, Rosa De Cecca from White Plains, New York. He was predeased by four brothers and two sisters all from White Plains. Visitation is 5pm to 7pm, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at McCurdy Funeral Home. Kenneth Matthew Bartsch, 80, was born on September 19, 1936 in Rockne, Texas to Matthew and Mary Beck Bartsch. Kenneth lived a full life. He worked hard all of his life until he became ill. He was in the U.S. Marines, employed and retired from TX-Dot. Upon retirement Kenneth was able to devote all of his time to his love of ranching and working his cattle and land. His family was the center of his life. She enjoyed being taken for rides around Lockhart by her family and she was a member of St. James AME Church, Lockhart. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew Haynes; four children, Brenda Haynes, Willie Andrew Haynes, Jeffrey Haynes and David Haynes; one brother, Robert Hughes and four sisters, Dora D. Hughes, Texanna Ellison, Nell Roland and Emma Cline, and by two great-great grandchildren, Deiron Haynes and Jayeyn Haynes.
