Preston Ellis Cargile

Preston Ellis Cargile was born August 12, 1930 to Daniel Webster Cargile and Annie Irene (Goodwin) Cargile at Roaring Springs, Texas. He died Monday, September 18, 2017 in Lockhart, Texas. Preston was the oldest of three children. He has two sisters, Marlene and Danny Rue. He graduated from Sudan High School and soon after joined the army. He rose to the rank of sergeant and served in Korea. Preston married Charlene Watson on August 13, 1953 in Muleshoe, Texas. They had four children, Cassandra, Karen, Wade, and Elaine. He farmed and ranched in Parmer County until retiring in 2008 to Caldwell County. Preston had horses since childhood, and in later years participated in cutting horse competitions.  He never met a stranger and was involved in his church and the community. Preston was a deacon in the Primitive Baptist Church. He enjoyed studying his bible and discussing the scriptures. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Daniel Wade Cargile. Preston is survived by Charlene, his wife of 64 years. Lavada Earlene Wallace Malicoat

Lavada Earlene Wallace Malicoat, 76 of Lockhart, died September 17, 2017. She was born to Carmen Gertrude Hetherly and Samuel Earl Wallace on October 13, 1941 in Lockhart, Texas. Lavada was united in marriage on February 10, 1959 in Seguin, Texas to her husband of 58 years, Clarence Wayne Malicoat of Lytton Springs, Texas. Lavada enjoyed many things in life such as: baking, gardening, birds, flowers, hosting family events and admiring her prized jewelry collection. She loved more than anything, her family time creating glorious memories. Lavada was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Darrell Erens and sisters, Judy Cox, Delores Lawrence and Sammie Anderson. Earl C. Rodenberg, Jr. died peacefully at the age of 94 in Austin, Texas, on September 1st. He is survived by daughter Lori Ann Meyer (San Diego, CA), daughter-in-law Merlyn Rodenberg (Tyler, TX), grandchildren Michael Keith and Anna Rodenberg (Southlake, TX), Kristi Kay Rodenberg Hooten and husband Todd (Prosper, TX), Wendy Meyer Fry (San Diego, CA), Megan Danielle Meyer (San Francisco, CA), and five great-grandchildren. Earl is preceded in death by his wife, Sally, and his oldest child Earl Charles Rodenberg. Earl was supported in life by his extended family Lori Sue Atkins (Houston, Texas) and many loyal friends from his time at Gold’s Gym in South Austin. Earl was born on January 20, 1923, in Austin, Texas, to Annelee Rodenberg and Earl C. Rodenberg, Sr., of Lockhart, TX.  He married Sarah Jane (Sally) Rodenberg while serving in the Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, Earl and Sally settled in Old Ocean, Texas where Earl worked for Phillips Petroleum Company until he retired to Clute, Texas and then eventually Austin. Georgia Lynn Fahrig passed away on August 25, 2017 at the age of 49. Born in San Antonio, Texas, she was the youngest child of Bryan and Doretta Tracy Fahrig. Georgia was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #210, supporter of Jesus and Kids Equestrian and a helper at Simple Sewing Solutions. She is survived by her parents; sisters, Rhonda Simmons and Virginia Moeller; nephew, Jakob Simmons; half of Lockhart, which were her friends and animals all over Texas including: 2 cats, 3 dogs, 3 horses and 70 goats. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Lockhart City Cemetery beginning at 2 pm. Edith Reed Morrow Owen lived a long life in which she had a positive impact on the many people whose lives she touched. Edith Owen was born November 17, 1919, in DeWitt County, TX, in the Stratton Community to Albert and Susie Alexander Morrow. She passed from this life on August 19, 2017 in Parkview Nursing Home. When Edith was six years old, her family moved to the Rio Grande Valley where her dad farmed and they resided in the community of Sebastian. She greatly admired her older brother, Joseph, as well as her younger twin sisters, Aline and Pauline, and younger brother, Marcus. Edith attended high school at Lyford, where she graduated as valedictorian in 1938. She attended Texas A&l College at Kingsville for one year. During that year, her younger brother, Marcus, drowned in a swimming accident. At the end of the school year, she moved back home to help support her family during this devastating time. Clendon LaVon Culpepper, 59, of Henderson, Texas went on to be with the Lord on July 20, 2017. LaVon was born February 4, 1958 in Freeport, Texas. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of Brazoria Kennel Club.  He was an officer with the Lockhart Police Department for 3 years and the Caldwell County Sheriff Office for another 3 years. He was a member of Willow Drive Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas. LaVon was retired from Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. David Alfred Schubert

David Alfred Schubert passed away on July 25, 2017 at the age of 89 from complications resulting from a fall.  He was a lifelong resident of Niederwald, Texas where he was born on April 22, 1928.  David lived a peaceful country life with his wife of 67 years, Adeline Duesterheft Schubert.  He was a quiet man with a wry wit.  He found humor in most everything and you never quite knew what practical joke or funny story was hidden behind his sly smile.  He loved deer hunting and fishing, and spent tireless hours outdoors in search of the big buck or fish. David spent his early years roaming the fields near his home and working on the family farm.  He graduated from Uhland High School and attended Texas Lutheran College for a period of time.  On the day of his high school graduation David met his sweetheart, Adeline who he married on October 30, 1949. McMahan resident Dorothy Duke Johnson, 93, died July 18, 2017, at the Christopher House in Austin, Texas. Dorothy Helen Duke Johnson was born February 23, 1924 in Austin, Texas to Wilder Morgan Duke and Mary Ellen Lyons Duke. Dorothy grew up in Beaumont, Texas surrounded by her mother's large Irish family. Her maternal grandparents had emigrated from Ireland. After graduating from South Park High School, she traveled to California to visit relatives and work in support of the WWII effort. Following the war, she returned to Beaumont, to enjoy her family, friends and raising her two girls. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She sewed dresses for both her girls and granddaughter. She later moved to Houston where she and her husband Raymond Johnson lived until they built their home in McMahan, Texas in the early 1970's. There they raised cattle, travelled, and enjoyed many wonderful years there together. Dorothy was active in the Delhi Quilt Guild. Geraldine Ohlendorf, a lifelong resident of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on July 6, 2017. Gerry loved life and found great fulfillment in service to family, church, and community. She gave tirelessly to her family and the children of Lockhart, shared passionately her musical talents through church and school, and worked enthusiastically to preserve Caldwell County’s historic courthouse. She was always ready for adventure and loved to play bridge, go to book club, or have coffee with her friends. She loved to organize family events, and was especially pleased when everyone could be together. Gerry was born to Burma and Harry Retherford on April 18, 1931. She grew up surrounded by family; her aunts and uncles, cousins, and grandparents were her neighbors. Gerry and her older sister Lola spent their youth playing with their cousins under the oak trees of their yards. In the best decision of her life, she married Conrad Ohlendorf on January 26, 1951, when she was nineteen years old.
