Charles A. Callihan

Our beloved Charles A. Callihan, 67, of San Antonio, Texas was called home by our heavenly father on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Charles was born Aug. 9, 1949 in San Marcos, Texas, to Willis and Vada Callihan.

As a young, gifted athlete Charles attended grade school in San Marcos. He participated in football, baseball, track, cross country and city “4” basketball programs.

Upon high school graduation, he attended Trinity University. However, he completed his college education in San Marcos at Southwest Texas State University. While at SWTSU, Charles participated in football and track. He won numerous awards and set track records. He also earned a third-place ranking in the 400 and 40 yard dash World Record Race at the Astrodome in Houston.

Graduating in 1971 with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Business, Charles began his teaching and coaching career with the San Antonio Independent School District and retired after 40 years.

Charles was united in marriage to Sharon Yvonne Guajardo on April 9, 1983. To this union, a loving son, Charles Arthur Callihan Jr., was born Jan. 25, 1985.

Charles was not only a success as a dedicated teacher and coach, he was also a very active member of Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, where he participated in every facet of the church.

As a dedicated husband, father and friend, he will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Vada. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Sharon Callihan, son Charles Callihan Jr. (Amor), daughter Chandra McDonald, grandson Christian McDonald, brothers Willis Callihan (Regina), Billy Ray Callihan, in-laws Eli and Mary Guajardo, and a host of cousins, friends and associates.

A memorial will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19 at Second Baptist Church, San Antonio. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at Jackson Chapel UMC, San Marcos.
