Dora Garza White

Dora Garza White, 91, last surviving child of Peter and Cora Garza, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 in San Marcos, Texas.  She was born November 18, 1918 in San Marcos, Texas.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. White; brothers, George Garza, John Garza, Edward Garza, Bonifacio Garza, Peter Garza and J.C. Garza; sister and husband, Lucia and Alfonso Contreras.  She is survived by four sisters-in-law, Agnes Garza, Lydia Garza, Gloria Garza, and Joyce Garza; and many nieces and nephews.

Dora was a lifetime resident of San Marcos.  She was a 1938 graduate of San Marcos High School and attended Southwest Texas Teachers’ College.  Dora was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church.  She was employed by San Marcos Department Store for over 20 years and continued her career as a retail sales associate at J.C. Penney in San Marcos, where she  retired after 30 years of service  at the age of 83.  After her retirement she enjoyed her leisure time with her family and pets.  Dora took in strays and gave them a home.  She will always be remembered as a lover of God’s little creatures. 

The family wishes to thank friends and family for their prayers and visits and extends deepest gratitude to the staff of the Hays Nursing and Rehabilitation  Center and CTMC Hospice for the kind and loving care given to our beloved Aunt Dora.

Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, August 19, 2010, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary starting at 7:00 P.M.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 20, 2010, at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Marcos.  Interment will follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery.
