James Wilburn Ragsdale (a “BISM”) was born in San Marcos September 4th, 1920. Wilburn was a descendant of five of the Barons that signed the Magna Charter in 1215. He was a sixth generation Texan. His great, great, great grandfather was one of the original 300 land grant recipients and his great, great, grandfather was a Doctor at the Battle of San Jacinto. He died February 6th, 2017 at the age of 96. Wilburn graduated from San Marcos High School and SWTSC. He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II and served in China. After a long career with Avis Rent A Car he taught school. When he retired he moved back to San Marcos to care for his mother and open an Antique shop.
Wilburn was preceded in death by his father and mother-George, Sr. and Jamie Ragsdale, 3 brothers-J. Edwin Smith, J. Searcy Smith and George Ragsdale, Jr. and 2 nieces Patty Smith McKinney, and Bess Ann Smith.
He is survived by 1 niece-Polly Smith Wright and 1 nephew-Robert Smith, 3 great nephews, 10 great, great nieces and nephews, and 11 great, great, great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his constant companion, his dog Harry.
His family would like to thank his caregivers, Emma Trinada and her family, for their excellent care.

Wilburn was a wonderful man. He was kind and loving, always thinking of others, never himself. His love of dogs was unfailing. I considered Wilburn a good friend, and will miss him deeply. Blessings to Polly and the rest of the family.
