Janice “Jan” Louise Cox

Date of Birth: February 2, 1947  |   Date of Death: July 6, 2017   |   Service Date: 1:00 pm, Saturday, July 15, 2017.

It is with much love we bid Jan “Janma” Cox farewell and into the arms of God and her adoring husband, Jack H. Cox, Jr.  Jan was born and raised in Kenedy, Texas and later moved to the Corpus Christi area where she earned her Bachelor of Arts at Texas A&I, Kingsville and Masters in Education at Corpus Christi State University. Jan was a devoted 1st grade teacher for 29 years at Flour Bluff Elementary School in Corpus Christi, Texas where she built friendships that would span a lifetime.

Jan retired in 2001 in San Marcos, Texas with her husband Jack to the now famous “Cox Compound” surrounded by Jack’s life-sized yard art creations, towering oaks, limitless views of the Texas Hill Country and a Texas-sized porch big enough to hold her countless wind chimes, vibrant yellow flowers, and all the family and friends that frequently visited their Hill Country paradise.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents Wilber and Maxine Jones and her loving husband of 25 years Jack H. Cox, Jr. She is survived by her sons Paul Cox and his wife Alice; Scott Chauvette and his wife April; Jason Cox and fiancé Emily McGann; Chad Chauvette and his wife Jamie; sisters Sharon Stephens, Dana Jones Laub and her husband Phil; brothers Bill Jones and Dean Jones; nine Grandchildren, four Great-Grandchildren, and a huge extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews – all of whom she adored.

Jan knew no strangers. To meet her was to immediately be welcomed into her family and home where she was happiest hosting a crowd of friends and family. The Cox Compound was home to countless reunions, social gatherings and our treasured Thanksgivings where anyone that didn’t have family nearby (or even if they did) was welcomed to join with open arms. She’ll be remembered in all our hearts for the hilarious stories she shared so many nights on the porch, her infectious laugh, her welcoming and gracious spirit and her abundant love for her family and Jack.  It gives us joy to know she’s finally back in his arms now happy, laughing and dancing away.

We will be celebrating Jan’s life in a memorial to be held Saturday July 15, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Cox Compound at 2601 Lime Kiln Road, San Marcos. It will be followed by a service at 1:00pm, Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Texas State Cemetery in Killeen, TX, where she’ll be laid to rest with her beloved Jack.
