Lt .Col. Jon K. Hovde, (U.S. Army, Ret.) of San Marcos, Texas, husband, father, friend, and mentor to many, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the age of 66. Jon was often described as a dear soul who inspired life in spite of his circumstances. He was born on August 14, 1943 in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Rolf and Fredrikka (Finnson) Hovde.

Jon retired from the U.S. Army after a 25 year career. He has been a member of the First Lutheran Church since 1984. He enjoyed reading, especially the Bible, using his computer and listening to his CD’s, horseback riding in his younger days, dancing, coin collecting and tinkering with cars.

His parents, and a son, Cory Hovde (1990) preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann C. Hovde of San Marcos, whom he married on June 26, 1965; a son, Tim Hovde of Austin; two daughters, Wendy Sivilay and husband, Jack of San Marcos, and Missy Hovde of San Marcos; brother, Knut Hovde and wife, Linda of Esko, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Emily, Cory, Molly and Riley Sivilay; nephews, Nick Hovde, Charles Sautier and his wife, Geri; and a niece, Jennifer Hovde.

Family will receive friends at 12:00 P.M., on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church in San Marcos and Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, with the Rev. Arden Dorn officiating. Jon will be laid to rest at the Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop, Minnesota.
