Patricia Kardys McKinnon
The Lord called his servant Pat McKinnon, home September 3rd after a two year battle with cancer. Pat was born March 12, 1951 in Mt. Clemans to Mack and Juanita (Mixon) Kardys. She graduated from Samuel Clemens High School and went on to graduate with a teaching degree from Southwest Texas State University where she was a member of the Strutters Dance Team. While at SWT, she met and married Ted McKinnon, her husband of forty years.
Pat touched many students lives as a teacher. She taught for a combined twenty years at Travis Elementary in San Marcos and Frazier Elementary in New Braunfels. She had a special gift of relating to children and cared deeply about seeing them succeed.
Pat has been a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for 23 years. Upon retiring from teaching, she enjoyed her involvement in Christian education and bible study. She loved traveling and had a sense of adventure.
Pat’s greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was selfless and a model mother. She loved her family dearly and was helpful and generous. “Gigi” was a grandmother extraordinaire planning special outings, crafts, and activities to do with her grandchildren. She will be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ted, daughter Leigh McKinnon, daughter and son-in-law Amy and Ian Taylor and grandchildren Mattie and Graham Taylor, her mother, Juanita Kardys, and siblings Diane Birdwell, Richard Kardys, Kenneth Kardys, and Daniel Kardys.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 6th at 7:00 PM at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos. A Celebration service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 7th at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. Graveside service is private.
Arrangements under the care and guidance of Pennington Funeral Home, 323 North Comanche, San Marcos, Texas 78666, 512-353-4311. Obituary and guestbook on line at www.penningtonfuneralhome.com

Mr. McKinnon: my condolences are with you at this time of grief. Mrs. McKinnon was my son’s 2nd grade teacher, and was so loved by him and the rest of her class. If I remember correctly, that was the year that she retired from Goodwin Frazier. She will be missed, but will be in our hearts forever. My prayers are with you and your family.
